Coinbase 和 Circle 有什么区别？

Coinbase is a 'universal' company. It's a wallet, it's a bitcoin brokerage/exchange and a merchant services company.

Circle, at the moment, is just the wallet and the brokerage/exchange (both are more brokerage than exchange) but they don't do merchant services.

So in terms of services so far, Coinbase is like Circle+Bitpay. (Bitpay is purely a merchant services company)

Alright then there's some smaller differences.

Circle has free purchase and sale of bitcoin. Coinbase charges 1% for this. Beyond that, both are free to use. (e.g. deposit/withdrawal, spending bitcoin etc, that's free). Except for creditcard purchases, there you also pay the CC fee on Circle, but bank transfers are free, where Coinbase charges for the bank transfer + 1%.

Everything is up to certain daily/monthly limits. e.g. you can't buy $1m bitcoin instantly for free on Circle right now for whatever crazy reason you'd want to, nor could you at Coinbase. There are limits and they differ a bit but not all that much.

Lastly, Circle is insured. There have been some question marks about their insurance that haven't been verified by Circle yet to my knowledge, so I'm a bit on the fence still. But they claim to offer full insurance, which also is free. Coinbase doesn't. However, they do actually insure some of their coin, and work on insuring more, at which point they'll announce it. (Not many people know this but Fred said so in a talk some time back.)

Then there's things like apps and APIs and history and scale and backing and employees etc etc. For example, Coinbase has a third-party app for your smartphone, Circle is purely something for your browser. Coinbase has a public API, Circle doesn't. Circle is in closed beta, Coinbase has been open to the public for quite a while and is an older company. Coinbase is ran by new young founders, Circle is ran by a Silicon Valley veteran who's built billion-dollar products and headed companies as CEO before. There's lots of those minor differences.

I'm very excited about both companies as they're mainstream-oriented companies, although I don't really use both much personally. They're quite similar, and I expect them to offer similar products for a long time in a different form.
